My Thoughts / Why I’m Here -{03.17.07}-

A little over a year ago, I started to realize something. Here, in Nashville, there are so many talented musicians and artists with some incredibly creative music and thought-provoking lyrics. It’s such a shame that so many people come to a city like this looking to “make it big” by signing with a major label. Winning a televised talent contest seems to be the only way for a lot of young artists. But here I sit, on the other end of things, looking for artists that have already gotten a hold of some interesting spark. I need to get their stuff out there. That’s what I came to Nashville to do. The best way to marry those two pursuits? eqv records.

Perhaps a bit convoluted, but the name does have real meaning. The ‘eqv’ stands for the latin phrase ‘esse quam videri’ meaning roughly “To be, rather than to seem.” It’s a great motto behind what I’m trying to do with this independent record label. More manufactured pop stars? No thanks, we’re all stocked up here in America. What we need to hear, what people crave, is truth and beauty in music. That comes in no particular style or genre, but purely in what the artist brings to the table. And what I mean to do, the best I can, is bring that to you. I want you to hear it, too.
